OLD TENEMENT APARTMENT IN WARSAW

Renovation of apartments in old tenement houses is one of our favorite themes. This project and its implementation are particularly close to our hearts.

A fantastic location in the very center of Warsaw in a restored art nouveau tenement building from 1910. Investors who opened up to our bold, eclectic ideas throughout the assignment and a team of reliable contractors strongly contributed to the final effect of this project.

During the developer’s renovation of the tenement building the apartment lost all of its pre-war details. Our goal was to restore the pre-war atmosphere in the sense of architecture, interior elements and detail finishing.

We merged the living room with the office thus opening a suite of rooms. We designed the door woodwork by carefully analyzing the details and proportions of the doors preserved in nearby tenement houses from the same period. We recreated the stucco layout of the ceiling and walls in a simplified, more contemporary form, by having it especially made by a partner studio. We found an art nouveau tile furnace that after careful restoration was placed in an honorary spot in the salon.

The floors in the hall and the bathroom were tiled with historical Winckelmans stoneware tiles. Two floor panels saved from the old wooden floors were placed in the small guest bathroom. For the rest of the floor area we chose aged planks arranged in a herringbone pattern.

All carpentry details designed for this soulful interior and their hand-made quality craftsmanship refer to the pre-war interior style.

We wanted the classic base of the apartment to become a space that can accommodate the classics of the 20th century design, contemporary design and Polish art – paintings, photography, sculpture and ceramics.

This apartment’s project required a comprehensive implementation that included: interior concept, interior design, project team work coordination, collaboration with trusted contractors, supervision over finishing works and oversight of the delivery dates for interior design elements.

Exactly 14 months passed from the beginning of the design work to the completion of the photo shoot.
