APARTMENT IN THE OLD TENEMENT IN POLISH SEASIDE

Full of hustle and bustle Tri-city seems to be far away. The cry of seagulls is sometimes the only sound that reminds about the sea near by. This is the place where Piotr was spending holiday with his grandmother. After many years he started to dream to create a summer asylum for his children.

The renovation of this apartment took two years. Piotr was sure that in the interior details and decorations he wants to keep the very special pre-war mood. He loves antique furniture, especially ones called ‘gdańsk’s furniture’ very dark and solid. But his wife Wioletta prefers airy interiors, light colors and scandinavian style decorations. They asked interior designer Anna Olga Chmielewska to help them find an aesthetic compromise.

Owners decided that they wanted to keep as much as they can from the old architectural structure of the apartment. There are suite rooms and very long entrance hall. Unfortunately it was impossible to renovate original door joinery and stucco so they was replaced by the new ones. Wooden parquet was arranged in herringbone like it used to be before in 1920s. For the entrance hall, kitchen and bathroom Anna chose MULTINA tiles designed by Patricia Urquiola.

White is dominating color in this apartment. It was very conscious choice because the walls as well as furniture make a perfect background for the collection of modern Polish art. First were graphics from the Lena Szczesna’s illustration series.
